Když nad tím přemýšlím mou degenskou hlavou tak ETH a BTC jsou diametrálně rozdílné a i kdyby bylo někdy ETF na ETH tak bych si tipnul že nebude nyní ale za několik let...

když bude BTC ETF bude i ETH, moc nejde o to, co chce SEC, ale co si pro lobbuje Wall Street, otázka není jestli, ale kdy . Podle reportu Palm Beach je pět vítězu na BTC ETF, a to jsou mince Eth, Matic, Link, Solana a Avalanche.

A Spot Bitcoin ETF – Not If, but When
Now, you may have your doubts that a bitcoin ETF will get approved.

After all, Tyler and Cameron Winklevoss first filed for a spot bitcoin ETF in 2013… over a decade ago!

And since then it’s been a long, tough road forward.

The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) rejected the first spot bitcoin ETF filing in 2017. And dozens of applications since.

Now, the SEC did approve the first bitcoin futures ETF in 2021. But this isn’t what most market participants wanted.

You see, the bitcoin futures ETF doesn’t invest in BTC, but rather BTC futures to track its price. So you’re not holding BTC through the ETF.

On top of that, future contracts have to be continuously rolled over. That imposes additional costs.

It also means the ETF doesn’t always accurately track the market price. And it can potentially result in taxable distributions.

So a futures-based ETF is best used as a trading vehicle.

What most investors want is a bitcoin ETF that’s like GLD. One that actually owns BTC. One an investor can use as a foundational piece of their portfolio.

And signs are emerging that we could have one in the very near future.

One sign came in June when asset manager BlackRock filed an application. It breathed new life into the possibility of a spot BTC ETF.

After all, BlackRock is the largest asset manager in the world, with $9.1 trillion in assets under management. And its filing came on the heels of the SEC’s lawsuit against Binance and Coinbase.

Plus, it showed a major shift in sentiment. Larry Fink, BlackRock’s CEO, said clients had zero interest in cryptocurrencies in 2018.

Fast-forward to 2023, and Fink said, “We are hearing from clients around the world about the need for crypto.”

When the CEO of the largest asset management firm in the world says there’s a need for crypto, we should listen.

Then there’s Grayscale Investments, issuer of the Grayscale Bitcoin Trust (GBTC).

Grayscale would like to convert its trust into an ETF, but like others has been denied by the SEC.

So it sued the SEC, claiming that the SEC’s rejection of its spot bitcoin ETF filing was unlawful. And won.

On top of that, the SEC chose not to appeal, formalizing the ruling. That means going forward, the SEC can either reject the application on other grounds or give it approval.

We think the latter is much more likely at this juncture. And you can see it in the GBTC discount to net asset value (NAV).

GBTC traded at a 40%-plus discount to its NAV over the first half of 2023. But after the BlackRock news and subsequent court ruling, that discount has fallen to just 8%.

That tells us the market is betting that GBTC will be converted to an ETF.

Most recently Grayscale met with the SEC to discuss the details of its ETF. And subsequently Grayscale updated GBTC’s trust agreement for the first time since 2018.

The changes will improve the operational efficiencies for the anticipated conversion to an ETF.

Other recent actions of the SEC suggest a spot bitcoin ETF is on the way as well.

For example, BlackRock met with the SEC’s Division of Trading and Markets in late November. And it submitted revisions to its application to allay the SEC’s concerns over market manipulation.

Further, numerous reports show the SEC has been working with spot bitcoin ETF issuers behind the scenes on the backend details.

And notably, the SEC met with Franklin and Hashdex in late November and delayed their applications a month before the deadline.

While this appears negative at first blush, it potentially paves the way for all spot bitcoin applications to be approved at once.

You see, if the SEC waited on the decision, the comment period would’ve overlapped with the next deadline on January 10, 2024. That’s the final deadline for the Ark 21Shares Bitcoin ETF.

And it would’ve interfered with the SEC’s rumored plans to approve all the spot bitcoin ETF applications at the same time.

This would eliminate any first-mover advantage for applicants… and give SEC Chair Gary Gensler, who’s known to have lofty political ambitions, a major victory.

Now, this approval date isn’t guaranteed.

There’s a remote chance the SEC could deny the application once again. But after the Grayscale ruling, this is very unlikely.

It’s also possible the SEC approves the 19b-4 filings but delays approving the S-1.

Issuers must get approval from the SEC's Trading and Markets division on its 19b-4 filing and approval from the Corporate Finance division on the S-1 filing or prospectus.

So it’s possible the SEC could approve the ETF but delay its launch.

That would only delay the inevitable, however.

At this point a spot bitcoin ETF isn’t a matter of if, but when.

And it will have huge implications for BTC and the cryptocurrency markets.
